This week sees our three intrepid Otago University scholarship winners sharing their experiences with their peers from Years 12 and 13. Earlier in the term April Ann Seiuli – Ah Kam,  Aaliyah Patea and Lorenzo Havili were lucky enough to win an all-expenses paid trip to visit Otago University – each had to write an essay explaining their aspirations and outlining their goals for 2017. They were hosted by students of Knox College and saw firsthand what university life in Dunedin was all about. The focus was on the Health Sciences and showcased not only the amazing facilities on offer, but the incredible support available to Pasifika students who venture down to the South Island. PIRSSU (Pacific Islands Research and Student Support Unit) ran the programme across the three days and it was abundantly clear that they provide a service second to none for Pasifika Health Science students – supporting their emotional, cultural and educational needs throughout their time at the university. We can be proud of all three of them as they each came away an award from the organisers of the event in recognition of their outstanding essays. As Lorenzo said on the night, “We are from OC, the Home of the Brave!”
